Since 1992, and the advent of HUD’s Elimination Grant, the Housing Authority of the City of Tulsa has been providing its residents of Public Housing with on-site security and an in-house security department designed to help eliminate crime and make THA’s sites a safe environment for residents.

THA’s NAHRO award winning Security Department currently consists of one Chief Security Officer, two Fraud and Drug Investigators and an office coordinator. The department also has one armed Facility Reporting Officer, working along with THA’s contract security provider, assigned to protect family complexes.  All of these employees, with well over 100 years of security experience, help to make a safe environment for over 3,200 THA residents.

The safety and well-being of THA residents is a high priority and the Security Department takes its responsibilities seriously. Security investigators examine fraud and drug complaints at Section 8 sites, as well as Public Housing sites. In addition, they complete over 1,000 background checks per month of resident applicants and potential new THA employees. The Chief Security Officer is responsible for scheduling the 900 man hours of security per week to ensure the safety of our tenants.

The Security Department is also involved with the Citizen’s Crime Commission and the Tulsa Police Department in assisting in the development of Citizen’s Alert Patrol and Alert Neighbor programs for THA residents at all Public Housing sites.

Along with its other responsibilities, THA’s Security Department maintains a Drug Hotline designed for those who wish to be a “good neighbor” by reporting drugs or criminal activity at Section 8 or Public Housing sites. Callers who call the Drug Hot Line may remain anonymous. Calls are recorded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Calls can be made at anytime to report a crime.
